Sephardic Music Festival

SMF 2006 Mix TapeHell Yeah! Jewlicious is proud to be a co-sponsor of this year’s Sephardic Music Festival in New York City. Taking place between the 16th and the 24th of December 2006, SMF will feature an ecclectic range of artists from Hadag Nachash, to Y-Love, Divahn, Juez, Pharaoh’s Daughter and more, including the musical stylings of dj handler – the guy that runs all this without any money from the organized Jewish community!

Check out their Web site for times, venues and locations. If you want to be supportive you can also order the official Sephardic Music Festival’s mix tape, mixed by SMF producer, dj handler.

Look for me on opening night Dec. 16th at Makor (35 West 67th st off Columbus st) where performers will include Y-Love and Pharaoh’s Daughter. Well, I may or may not be there depending on the hospitality of New Yorkers – see my usual corporate digs on the LES are not available this time of year and December in New York is the worst time ever to get a hotel. Something about pre-Christmas shopping. Sheesh. Anyone got some digs they wanna share or rent for a reasonable price? Please email me at jewlicious@gmail.com and hook a brother up.

  1. ck, unreasonable prices are not true! as much as i wish i could offer you a spot in our cozy apartment, it’s been over a good ten years since we owned a piece of the rock.

on the other hand, my best friend and I are celebrating our 21sts on dec 22 and we rented a hotel room as home base. if you do a good meta-search, you can find decent digs in decent locations at under $125. (not that $125 converts well into shekels…but for nyc prices, it’s reasonable.) there’s also a few good hostels–including one up in the 70s off amsterdam.

make sure to keep us new york-based folks informed if you’re going to be up here! and for how long!

  2. I love the bands listed. I love Sepharidc music. But the musicians you listed are not sephardic and I don’t think it will be Sephardic music. I just had to point that out. Come to Israel. then you’ll hear REAL Jewish music and you’ll create REAL Jewish music.
