It should be well known that the first tourists to the region from the West came as religious pilgrims, and here America was only following in a very long tradition. I&#039;m betting the Yanks &amp; Rebs did better than Napoleon too, but that&#039;s another story. Where do you think we got all this Egyptian art that crowds almost every Western museum of note from ME to CA? History, an unknown country. Foreign history, an unkown world.
