Shabbat Challah

Israel_general_2007_00004__WinCE_.JPGThat’s right, I’m stealing themiddle’s job. Because homemade Challah (photographed last Friday in Jerusalem) is the bomb. But not the bad kind of bomb, the good kind. As in “da bomb.” They don’t seem to get that phrase in Jerusalem.

Did you ever notice that “challah+shalom=chalom”? Here’s to living the dream, and to the dream-life, of Shabbat.

Shabbat shalom!

  1. Beautiful, beautiful. I hear baking bread is extremely fulfilling, especially as you get to “take Challah,” which is one of the “Three Women’s Mitzvot” but I have never yet done it.

It must be great to do that.

I read there is a way to avoid kneading. If you just give the dough 24 hours to rise, it will knead itself, with very little yeast, I read in the newspaper.

Someday I am going to do this. I really am.
