We have several translations here of the Koran into German. I read it for better understanding of the complex world. But instead of wiping out my stereotypes about Islam, they even made them more concrete. And I sometimes wish I had never read it. It is so full of hatred and knowing the way they think about Christians and Jews and other "pagans" I fear that one day they might really become more powerful!
I have a Hebrew copy of the New Testament. And honestly, it is so similar to the Tanakh. While I cannot imagine the Koran which is all but holy, written in Hebrew. And the Muslims will always say the same they say about German, English, French and whatever translations: They will say they are anti-Islamic propaganda from Zionists. This will happen to the Hebrew version also...

This article is a fine one. Although, I can't say much for the statement, "Perhaps this could lead to an increase in Jewish-Muslim unity, and a decrease in prejudice..." A nice thought, though.

As for the comments, I am saddened to read such vicious statements indicating a great deal of ignorance. To them I say, get informed! Don't burden us with your disgusting ramblings. '600 million ...' huh!? Who, with any sense can take such a thing seriously? Yaacov b. Cohen is right in suggesting people read credible, logically sound sources, not the CRAP, forgive the expression, you find on blogs like these, and tabloids written by incoherent and uneducated buffoons. (Not to say that Academia is always right, but undoubtedly the quality of the production by far supersedes the aformentioned.)

The contributor 'AC', I have this to say to you: you're just so beyond help there's nothing one can say. You have little authority to call others ignorant when you are... well, enough said there, not point soiling my finger-tips on that!

Rav Yonnah, I am surprised that such a defiling thought can even cross your mind when you should know well that every single letter of the Alephbet is holy. Aside from this, even if this translation were to use the transliterated 'Allah' for Hashem, it is evident that Allah is just another of a myriad of names of HaKadosh Baruch Hu. And that, just as one cannot utter or even think the English word 'G-d' in a washroom, so too this applies to Allah, for our G-d is the one and the same, regardless of theological disagreements. I cringe at your mere suggestion at all. Ten lanu Tikun h'Atsmenu, Borei Olam!

As for this translation, it is right to realise that anything that is being authorised and overseen by this Wahabi publishing authority, must be taken with a grain of salt. But the endeavour is nevertheless a legitimate one and welcomed. May the Creator hasten the coming day when we forget our distinctions and only celebrate our similarities!

I close on the final reflection that the instances of tolerance and coexistence in Islamic history by far outweigh those few occasions of intolerance and violence, even taking into account the present circumstance (where the message of Islam has been hijacked by usurpers and liars, both within and without). Retrospectively and cumulatively, Christianity has done a greater deal of damage to non-Christians than Islam to non-Muslims. Or rather, Christianity has been used to the greater detriment of humanity than Islam. Any reasonable and informed person should keep in mind that religious creeds, at least those with any history, have all had the misfortune of being misrepresented and misused for purposes that are beyond and condemned by that faith. Sadly, I cannot exclude my own beloved faith from this statement.

It is incumbent upon all of us to prevent the usurpation of our faiths.

ash shaheen: No. None of the previous prophets were Jewish nor Christian. They were all trying to give the human-kind the same message, which we got from our last and final prophet, Muhammed(PBUH). Which we Muslim's know that it is Islam, which is the right path to God.
Evidence:
130. And who turns away from the religion of Abraham but such as debase their souls with folly? Him We chose and rendered pure in this world: And he will be in the Hereafter in the ranks of the Righteous.

131. Behold! his Lord said to him: "Bow (thy will to Me):" He said: "I bow (my will) to the Lord and Cherisher of the Universe."

132. And this was the legacy that Abraham left to his sons, and so did Jacob; "Oh my sons! Allah hath chosen the Faith for you; then die not except in the Faith of Islam."

133. Were ye witnesses when death appeared before Jacob? Behold, he said to his sons: "What will ye worship after me?" They said: "We shall worship Thy Allah and the Allah of thy fathers, of Abraham, Isma'il and Isaac,- the one (True) Allah. To Him we bow (in Islam)."

134. That was a people that hath passed away. They shall reap the fruit of what they did, and ye of what ye do! Of their merits there is no question in your case!

135. They say: "Become Jews or Christians if ye would be guided (To salvation)." Say thou: "Nay! (I would rather) the Religion of Abraham the True, and he joined not gods with Allah."

136. Say ye: "We believe in Allah, and the revelation given to us, and to Abraham, Isma'il, Isaac, Jacob, and the Tribes, and that given to Moses and Jesus, and that given to (all) prophets from their Lord: We make no difference between one and another of them: And we bow to Allah (in Islam)." (2: 130 - 136)

140. Or do ye say that Abraham, Isma'il Isaac, Jacob and the Tribes were Jews or Christians? Say: Do ye know better than Allah. Ah! who is more unjust than those who conceal the testimony they have from Allah. but Allah is not unmindful of what ye do! (2:140)

67. Abraham was not a Jew nor yet a Christian; but he was true in Faith, and bowed his will to Allah.s (Which is Islam), and he joined not gods with Allah.
(2:67)

Islam doesn't allow force conversion of others and that what they choose to believe is their choice: ["Let there be no compulsion in religion: Truth stands out clear from Error: whoever rejects Taghut (evil) and believes in God hath grasped the most trust worthy hand-hold, that never breaks. And God heareth and knoweth all things. " (Qur'an 2:256)] and "Say: O you who reject faith. I worship not what you worship, You worship not what I worship...To you be your religion, and me mine." (Qur'an 109:1-6). To find out more details on this, see http://www.missionislam.com/discover/compulsion.htm. So, really, if you want to remain a Jew, you have the right to be so. To the saddistic bigots, in answering your question and bias statements on that the mission of being a Muslim is to be terrorists, you're wrong based on two main reasons. 1) "Fight against those who fight against you in the way of God, but do not transgress, for God does not love transgressors. (Qur'an 2:190) 2) "whosoever kills a human being for other than man's slaughter or corruption on earth, it would be as if he killed all mankind; and whosoever saves one life, it would be as if he had saved the life of mankind" (Qur'an 5:32)
) - reference: http://www.islam-usa.com/e106.htm. So killing a person for vengeance is not justice in Islam, and is seen as a murder in the eyes of God in Judgment Day.

Islam doesn't teach you that to become a Muslim you must hate non-Muslims. On the contrary, it teaches you that we are to uphold moral and ethical values, submitting to the will of the One unseen God, to give charity to the poor, sheltering the orphans, protect women from misuse (women have the rights to accept or refuse a marriage, and if she's not happy with a marriage she can file for a divorce. Though both parents are respected, the mother somehow has a higher degree of respect. If you read the Qur'an, you'd notice there's a verse dedicated to Mary's name - telling stories of her struggling in carrying Jesus in her tummy and raising him as well as God accepts her for her piety), and realising that they are people wish to retain different religions to you and it's their choice (as seen with the verses above). However, regardless of what one chooses to do - everyone's actions will be accountable towards God in the Day of Judgment.

The problem is with some people is to do with ignorance of others faith and they refuse to learn more because of that thinking it's all bad without opening a book on it or refusing to open up and ask questions - just because one or a few people commit a crime against your family, friends or you, doesn't mean that everyone in that society is bad.

Can you bigots give me reference on where (from some kind of book, journal or any other credible source) to justify your statements that 600 million Muslims hate non-Muslims and are terrorists? I really want to look it up.

To all biggot idiots, an Hebrew translation is required so that blood suckers can see that all prophets Moses (PBUH), Jesus (PBUH), Ibrahim (PBUH) ....are mentioned in the Quran |(for example Jesus) than Mohammed (PBUH). We muslim cannot be if without all previous Jewish prophets. May god bless you!

Regarding WHY they are doing this translation. I have noticed that the Saudis have a tendency to refer to Israel or Jews as "the Hebrew nation", stressing our language and ethnicity, not our religion.
I believe they have hopes the Jews will convert to Islam, thereby solving their problem with Israel's existence. It would suit them just fine if we all turned into Hebrew Muslims. As an aside, anyone who thinks Christians are the problem and Muslims are just terrific must be living on the far side of the moon.

Maybe I'm a bit more cynical than the "this will create universal understanding" comments and a bit more hopeful than the "this is only to convert Jews" comments, but my first thought upon reading this was from Sun-Tzu's Art of War:

<i>If you know the enemy and know yourself, you need not fear the result of 100 battles. If you know yourself but not your enemy, for every victory gained you will also suffer a defeat. If you know neither yourself nor your enemy, you will succumb in every battle.</i>

When so fanatical Muslims use this text as a basis for their actions, it's hard to imagine how one can know their enemy without being familiar with what it says.

“Perhaps this could lead to an increase in Jewish-Muslim unity, and a decrease in prejudice.”

I don't want to criticize Y-Love too much for his article because I know he has the best intentions and means to do good. But this sounds so utterly naive I wondered I reading the article wasn't in fact a waste of time.
