Old Timey Israel – In Living Color!

Journalist Lisa Goldman is a veritable treasure trove of information, most of which never makes it into her blog. Thankfully, I am privileged enough to be her friend on facebook and thus I get all kinds of gems like this video below. Remember all those old skool movies you used to see about the birth of Israel or whatever? They were always in black and white, right? So much so that when you think of David Ben Gurion, you don’t imagine him in flesh tones, you think of him in shades of grey. Well, thanks to a fortuitous discovery in Boston, this no longer has to be the case. Watch this video. Seriously. It’s amazing. Hebrew with English subtitles.

Thanks Lisa! Now blog more often!

UPDATE: You can buy the full length documentary that the above clip is based on HERE. Please note also that this video clip appeared in April on the JIDF who got it from Israel Matzav who cited Y-Net. OK? Do we have enough hat tips now?

  1. You really haven’t seen this before? You’re slipping.
    Chag Sameach.

  2. You can purchase the documentary based on the above video material here:

  3. This is a shame on two fronts:

    1) That you don’t read our blog, as we posted this info and video up about a month ago.

    2) That you apparently don’t follow my tweets, as I have indicated many times how Lisa Goldman fuels some of the most anti-Israel bias and hatred out there, using her own tweets against her.

Pretty sad and disappointed a “pro-Israel” blog would give her such kudos.

  4. Oh JIDF… ask Lisa what she thinks about Noam Chomsky’s politics. Ask her about Richard Silverstein. I often disagree with Lisa but she is always respectful and mostly reasonable. Also, she lives here, making her observations about Israeli society relevant and enlightening. Like I said, I often disagree with her, but I also have deep respect for her. Given the choice between someone who loves Israel from a distance, and someone who grapples with the reality of Israel on a daily basis from Israel, I’ll pay closer attention to the local. Lisa loves Israel, of that I have no doubt.

Sorry I missed that post on your blog dude, but I can’t read everything ALL the time! Someone’s gotta pay the rent… Next time you have something this cool on your blog, just let me know. I’m like a click away!

  5. Fair enough about not seeing the post.

You can pay closer attention to the locals who hate Israel and the IDF if you want. Shouldn’t be too difficult considering the many Israeli local professors and journalists on the left who are aiding and abetting our enemies, and spreading some of the most viciously hostile anti-Israel and even antisemitic rhetoric out there. I fail to see how hateful anti-Israel observations are “relevant” or “enlightening.”

If their commentary is more important or relevant to you because it’s closer, I find that sad.

You can claim she “loves Israel,” but there’s a reason why she is RT’d often and followed by some of the biggest Israel/IDF/Jew haters out there.

If anything, traitors like Lisa Goldman shouldn’t bother living in Israel if they have such a problem with it, and with the IDF.

I’d take a pro-Israel person living in the diaspora over an anti-Israel person living in Israel any day.

    • Lisa Goldman is not a traitor nor is she anti-Israel. I can’t believe I even had to say that. But if Lisa Goldman is an anti-Israel traitor then so am I.

  6. Regardless of Lisa’s politics..thank you for posting this…these were my grandfathers films that were sitting in my Dad’s basement for 30 plus years…and thank you to Avi for wanting them so much and turning them into a beautiful collage of the history of Israel culled from hours and hours and hours of footage. Fred Monosson’s family is proud that these were finally made available to the public…perhaps Avishai Kfir will do a sequel!
