We’ve got gas…
The discovery of another large natural gas deposit off the Haifa coast was announced today. Leviathan, the second gas field to be discovered in the last year off Haifa’s shore apparently holds sufficient reserves that Israel can become an exporter of natural gas. This past year, another field, called Tamar, just south of Leviathan, was also discovered and that field is believed to hold sufficient gas to meet all of Israel’s needs for about 25 years. There is some suspicion there may also be oil deposits under Leviathan’s gas deposits.
