A Conversation on Israel and Social Justice
May 17, 2012, 7-10 PM

Taking place at Hub San Francisco (925 Mission St.) in the SF Chronicle Building, Love, Hate and the Jewish State is meant to be a civil dialog about Israel where participants are encouraged to share their stories and “Leave the boxing gloves at home.” Sponsored by the New Israel Fund’s New Generations, the young adult/young professional 20s and 30s wing of the NIF, the program encourages participants to share their personal experiences about Israel and social justice. LHATJS is also co-sponsored by a large and diverse collection of local and national groups. These include A Wider Bridge, Berkeley Hillel, Congregation Beth Israel Judea, Congregation Beth Sholom, Bureau of Jewish Education, CalGrads, East Bay Moishe House, Hazon, Jewish Community Relations Council, J Street and J Street U, Keshet, Pursue, Rabbis For Human Rights – North America, San Francisco Hillel, San Francisco Moishe House, Congregation Sha’ar Zahav, The Kitchen, Urban Adamah, USF program in Jewish Studies and Social Justice, World Zionist Organization, Zeek and well, Jewlicious.

If you’re in or near San Francisco, I strongly encourage you to attend because we need more civil dialog, and also I am selfish. I, like the NIF, say yes to a better Israel. Civil dialog and a better Israel are totally two of my favorite things. The tickets are only $5 and you can order them and get more information here. LHATJS first took place in New York in 2009. All the feedback I’ve received from friends who have participated has been positive. It doesn’t matter what part of the ideological spectrum you belong to regarding Israel, as long as you are willing to engage in civil dialog, you will be heard. Who can argue with that? San Francisco, your Jewish peers, I bet they’ll even have a little nosh. So go ok?

And if anyone attending wants to submit a brief post about the event and how it went, we’ll publish it. Just use our contact form to get in touch or send an email to [email protected].
