Chanukah Electronica (yet another spelling) is a musical Chanukah celebration with top-notch music, comedy and food created by JConnectLA and Eric Schwartz, with partners The Chai Center, American Friends of Magen David, Jewish Free Loan, and LA Blueprint. Musical headliner’s Naked Rhythm— LA’s premier world music and electronica ensemble — were joined by the hilarious Smooth-E and LA’s own Shankbone for an incredible send off to Chanukah at The Joint. More than three hundred young Jews ended Chanukah crowded in, up to their chins in Modern Tribe’s No-Hold Texas Dreidle, chocolate coins, home-made latkas, and party size sufganiot. They party rocked the Joint until late into the night.

Registration is open for the 2010 New Moon Century.

JConnect is back on two wheels this fall for the most fun kosher-friendly distance ride in Southern California. The route? A beautiful, stunning and remarkable journey through the mountains, valleys and coastline of the Santa Monica Mountain Range. Riders come from all backgrounds and demographics.

This year we are continuing raising money and awareness about local hunger issues, through our partnership with the Jewish Federation’s Fed Up With Hunger campaign, and to support the rescue of sea mammals in the Gulf of Mexico.

The Israel Project (TIP) provides reporters the information, sources and visuals they need to get the facts right when they report on Israel and the Middle East. With more foreign journalists calling Jerusalem home than any city in the world except for Washington, D.C., Marcus Sheff manages the delivery of information to these 450 critical members of the foreign press as well as to over 75,000 journalists around the world in six languages. Press engagement includes regular press conferences and events and the one-of-a-kind helicopter tour (the “Intellicopter”) offered to every foreign journalist in Israel, which provides reporters the same strategic overview usually reserved for high-ranking military and elected officials. The office also provides specially crafted fact-finding ground tours of the most conflicted areas of Israel such as Sderot and N. Israel. Most recently, Sheff led TIP’s media effort during the Gaza conflict, the Pope’s Israel tour, President Obama Cairo speech, and the effort to stop Iran quest for nuclear weapons.

Sheff has worked as a media and communications professional in Israel for 20 years, beginning as a political reporter for the The Nation and later as an editor at The Jerusalem Post. Two weeks ago Los Angeles was rocked by a Purim party of Olympic proportions. JConnectLA, the Jewish Federation of Greater Los Angeles, and Atid – the young professional group of Sinai Temple and took over the entire Rodeo Collection on Rodeo drive. Music was provided by Moshav, Ram2, DJ Miles, and one of LA’s top DJ’s DJ Felli Fel.

When the party hit about 1000 people, the Beverly Hills Fire Marshall said enough. Purimpalooza party goers filled Purim baskets that were delivered to the Jewish elderly, and a local bone marrow registry swabbed party goers for bone marrow matches.

Purimpalooza in LA was started by Cheston Mizel, when he began the organization that became JConnectLA. The first event drew about 50-75 people. Purimpalooza has grown from year to year, changing venues and designs.

I just want to give a huge mazal tov to all the organizers, and the participants, for making the dream blossom that started seven years ago – an event to draw together Jews from all backgrounds – to help unify, inspire, and connect young Jewish people in Los Angeles. Shabbat Shalom!

Marcus J Freed followed a path toward becoming the Bibliyogi ….
through his journeys as an actor, writer and educator. His spiritual development included 12 months at a spiritual retreat in the mountains of Efrat, Israel, at Yeshivat HaMivtar. It was there that he studied enlightenment texts with three great Talmudic masters, Rabbis Chaim Brovender, Dovid Ebner and Shlomo Riskin. Marcus gained degrees from the Universities of Birmingham and London, but he met his next teacher at Webber Douglas Academy of Dramatic Arts, where yoga guru Edward Clark was teaching acting and movement.
